at the Plaza España stop if taking the airport bus. The nearest metro station
to the hotel is Rocafor, on the red Line 1.
A little tucked away in a residential district just off the Gran Via, this stylish boutique hotel represents good value for the city. On site, there is a popular rooftop bar and Wi-Fi is provided for free, plus the historic center is only 10 minutes away by metro.
The red, white, black and grey color scheme starts in the lobby, and continues through to the good-size rooms that blend modern design with antiques and ethnic art. Corner rooms are slightly bigger and have bathtubs, instead of showers.
The leafy rooftop bar is a highlight, where Spanish and other European visitors gather. During the warmer months, there is a barbecue every Thursday evening from 8pm. Ground floor Zinc Bar has potted palms, safari-pattern sofas and live music on the prominent grand piano. Mediterranean dishes and tapas are served here, and there is brunch on Sunday.
Staff members are super-attentive -- don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations in the city, or an umbrella on rainy days. Coffee, tea and pastries are free from 5-7pm on the first floor.
